Domains and Web Hosting
Before you can order a Talentcase website, you must have a domain and a web hosting account. We recommend the vendors at left. If you already have a hosting account with a different company, you will need to make sure that it is compatible with the Talentcase software. To check compatibility, see the section below.
Once you have registered your domain and have signed up for a web hosting account, you may order your Talentcase site. We will need your login information for both the domain and the web host, so please hold on to any emails the registrar and host send you about accessing your account. We will contact you after you place your order.
Is your web host compatible with Talentcase?
If you choose not to host your site with one of our recommended vendors, you must make sure that it is compatible with the Talentcase software. Most web hosts that have accounts with PHP and a MySQL database will have the necessary requirements. However, to make sure, you may do one of two things:
- If you are somewhat web-savvy, upload the Talentcase compatibility script to your website to test it
- Or, you may copy and paste the pre-written compatibility email to your host's customer service department.
Once you are certain that your host is compatible with Talentcase, you may place your order.
Running the compatibility script
If your hosting account is already set up and you are comfortable with using FTP to upload files to it, you may download the Talentcase compatibility script and upload it to your site.
- Download the compatibility script: compatscript.php.zip (ZIP file, 4kb)
- Unzip the compatscript.php.zip file.
- Using the instructions provided by your hosting company, connect to your website through FTP.
- Upload the compatscript.php file to the main (web-accessible) directory.
- In a browser window, type in this URL, using your domain name:
http://[YOUR DOMAIN]/compatscript.php - The script will automatically check your host's setup, and will tell you whether or not your web hosting account is compatible with Talentcase.
Customer support email
Copy and paste the following text into an email to your web host's customer service department to inquire about your hosting account's compatibility.
I am interested in using your hosting service for a specific website product, but I have a few questions regarding server compatibility. The website product I would like to install is a Talentcase site package (http://www.talentcase.com/), built using PHP and MySQL. The Talentcase software has a few minimum hosting requirements -- please confirm whether or not your web hosting accounts can accommodate these requirements:
- PHP 4.3.0 or higher with Safe Mode OFF and a post_max_size and upload_max_filesize of at least 5mb
- a MySQL database
- PHP GD Library
Thank you for your assistance,
