Does the aviation industry have any plans to relaunch concord?
With Concorde now grounded, people are wondering whether or not the aviation industry will ever re-launch this fantastic plane. There is no wonder that this plane was so popular, I mean lets face it in 1973 it was making flights from Washington in the USA to Paris in just 3 hours and 33 minutes, which in the 1970’s was simply revolutionary. It is hard to think why we haven’t progressed and 30 years on we have something which is even more supersonic than it was then, instead this fantastic plane was grounded in 2003 after it crashed killing everyone involved in Paris. With regards to air travel, this plane has to be one of the best of its time, with many celebrities having used her to travel.
There were only two companies that run Concorde, these were British Airways and Air France, it is thought that these companies only needed in fact to fill 100 seats on the flight in order to break even, which is pretty good. The great image of this plan became ever more apparent during the Live Aid concert in 1985 when Phil Collins flew over to the states on Concorde so that he could perform at both the US concert and the UK concert, during the live performances on the same day. There has been lots of other celebrity dilemmas during Concordes era, one very famous incident when Diana Ross ended up being arrested and escorted from Concorde at London Heathrow Airport, but this just added to Concorde’s reputation and ultimately boosted figures.
There is no doubt that this plane will go down in history as boosting air travel far beyond its time in an era where typewriters were still being used, DNA evidence was not yet a reality and the continental quilt was still unheard of by most families. It is unbelievable to think that aviation wise they were able to produce such a brilliant plane. The only question now is as to whether or not Concorde will actually be relaunched.
